We're looking for reliable, local people to run snowblowing routes in Rome, NY. Seasonal work, serious equipment, and a small team that gets things done.
Seasonal Route Operator
When snow hits our 3-inch trigger, the route goes. You'll operate an M-series tractor with a rear-mounted cyclone blower to clear residential driveways across a tight route within Rome. It's early mornings, occasionally overnight, and requires reliability above everything else.
This is seasonal, on-call work — November through April. Most of our operators hold other daytime jobs. The key is being available and showing up when the storm fires.
Unlike a car with an automatic transmission that shifts on its own, our M-series tractors require you to manually shift gears using a clutch and gear lever — the same way a manual car works, but on a much larger machine. This takes real practice to do safely in tight residential driveways.
Not comfortable with stick shift? Apply anyway. We're actively adding hydrostatic tractors to our fleet — machines with no clutch or gear shifting — specifically to open the door for people without that background. Let us know where you're at and we'll be straight with you about fit and timing.
We're building out the fleet with hydrostatic tractors — no clutch, no manual gear shifting. Push a lever, it moves. These machines are significantly easier to learn and we're adding them specifically to expand who we can bring on. If stick shift is a barrier today, it may not be a barrier for long.

Common questions
Do your tractors have stick shift? What does that mean?
Yes — our current M-series tractors are manual transmission, meaning you shift gears with a stick shift (like a manual car, but a large tractor). This is different from most modern cars, which shift automatically on their own. If you've never driven stick shift — in a car or a tractor — that's a real skill to develop and we won't pretend otherwise. That said, we're actively adding hydrostatic tractors to our fleet as we grow. Hydrostatic means no clutch, no gear shifting — you move a lever and the machine goes. If stick shift is a barrier for you right now, apply anyway and let us know. We may be able to match you to simpler equipment as it comes online.
I've never driven stick shift. Can I still apply?
Yes — and we appreciate the honesty. Our current tractors require stick shift experience or the ability to learn it. But we're building toward a mixed fleet that includes easier hydrostatic machines specifically so we can bring on people without that background. If you're coachable, reliable, and genuinely interested, submit your application and tell us where you're at. We'll be honest with you about timing and fit.
Do I need experience with tractors or heavy equipment?
Not required, but you need to be realistic about the learning curve. Our current equipment is manual transmission and takes real practice to operate safely in tight driveways. We will train you — but you have to be willing to commit to learning before the first storm. If you've driven a manual car, you're ahead of the curve. If you haven't, be prepared to practice.
What does a typical shift look like?
When accumulation hits our 3-inch trigger, we dispatch. Routes run primarily overnight and into the early morning — most of the work happens between 11 PM and 7 AM. You'll know a storm is coming and prepare accordingly.
Is this full-time work?
No — this is seasonal, on-call work. Many of our operators hold other jobs during the day. The key trait we need is reliability when the trigger fires. If a storm hits and you're on the route, we need you there.
When does the season run?
Typically November through April, depending on when meaningful snow starts and stops in Rome. Some winters are heavier than others — but when it snows, we go.
Do I need a special license?
A valid standard driver's license is required. No CDL needed. You do need to be comfortable operating large equipment — or willing to put in the practice time before the season.
